ADVOCATE- Thank you for wanting to become a Powerful voice in a child’s life.
Requirements for becoming an Advocate
- Desire to make a difference
- Must be 21 years of age
- Pass both Criminal & CPS background checks
- Ability to remain objective
- Maturity to deal with emotional situations
- Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences
- Ability to cooperate with all parties
- Access to transportation and flexibility to attend all court hearings
- Commit to at least 1 year to complete the assigned case
- Commit to completing a 30 hour training course and an additional 12 hours of in-service training.
- Submit the names of 3 references 2 of which are non-related.

| Application packet must be received a minimum of 6 weeks prior to next training class. This allows enough time to process your application, obtain background checks & schedule you for an interview with our Program Director. |

- National Children’s Advocacy Center in Child Abuse and Prevention offers free online training sessions on a variety of child abuse topics- www.nationalcac.org
- Provides information on laws, child development, investigation & prevention.
- Children’s Alliance offers two online class – www.childally.org/training/online.html
- Training on “Understanding Loss and Attachment” and “Ethics/Confidentiality
- Texas Department of Protective Services – www.dfps.state.tx.us
- Click on “Child Protective Services”. Provides information about the department & miscellaneous topics.
- Child Trauma – www.childtrauma.org
- Focus on the emotional trauma & traumatic stress
